Douglas County Environmental Health licenses and inspects local restaurants, mobile units, temporary food booths and caterers. If you have a complaint regarding a restaurant, lodging facility or pool/spa, or suspect you have an illness caused by food, please call: 541-440-3574.
Douglas Public Health Network conducts surveillance regarding foodborne illnesses. If you test positive for a pathogen like salmonella, campylobacter, E. Coli, or Hepatitis A, you may get a call from an epidemiologist. They may ask about places you have traveled to, restaurants visited, and foods you have eaten in order to determine if an outbreak is occurring. Participating in food surveys is completely voluntary and greatly appreciated. This information helps public health to recall contaminated food items and prevent others from becoming ill.
Symptoms of Food Poisoning: Food poisoning can cause bloody diarrhea, fever, dehydration, vomiting and diarrhea for more than 3 days. If you have these symptoms, please seek medical attention. A gastrointestinal pathogen panel can help diagnose what type of microbe you have in your stool. Adults over 65 years old, children younger than 5, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women are at a higher risk for severe illness.
